David Campbell

David Campbell was born in Cherry Valley, New York on May 3, 1794, and he died in Sandusky, Ohio on July 28, 1861. In 1822, David Campbell issued the first newspaper in Sandusky, called the “Sandusky Clarion.” The “Clarion” was the predecessor of the “Sandusky Register.” (See HISTORY OF ERIE COUNTY, OHIO, edited by Lewis Cass Aldrich, for more details about the Press of Erie County.)

David Campbell married Mary Jones Todd in 1817. Mary died in 1855. His second wife was Harriet West, the daughter of Abel and Matilda West.

David Campbell is buried in Sandusky’s Oakland Cemetery. On his tombstone are inscribed the words “An Honest Man.”

Scott Cemetery

Scott Cemetery is a joint project, between Milan Township, Huron Township, and the city of Huron, Ohio. The cemetery is located in the northern section of Milan Township, just south of the Huron Township boundary, on Huron-Avery Road. The cemetery is surrounded by farmland, and the facilities of the NASA's Plum Brook Station can be seen in the distance.














Charles C. Cleveland served in Company F of the Ohio 197th Infantry during the Civil War. He was a member of the G.A.R.











Ethel Swanbeck, who was the first woman to serve eleven consecutive terms in the Ohio House of Representatives, is buried in Scott Cemetery with her husband Carl Swanbeck.

The former general manager of the Detroit Tigers, Jim Campbell, is buried at Scott Cemetery. Mr. Campbell passed away in 1995. Jim Campbell Boulevard in Huron is named for Jim Campbell.
