Clarence W. Seavers



















Clarence W. Seavers was born in Sandusky, Ohio on August 15, 1919, and he lived in Sandusky throughout his life. During World War Two, he served with the 811th Aviation Engineer Battalion. Mr. Seavers was the first African American clerk at the Sandusky Post Office, and he worked there for 28 years. Clarence served his community in many ways, including serving on the Erie County Board of Elections, Erie-Huron County Community Action Commission, and the Committee to Build a Better Sandusky. He was named to the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2000.

In February, 2008, Clarence Seavers was honored at a banquet which recognized his long service to the community. The Clarence W. Seavers Citizenship Scholarship is awarded to Erie County students who demonstrate qualities of leadership, spirituality, and commitment to community service.

Clarence Seavers died on April 1, 2008. He is buried at Meadow Green Memorial Park, near the Veterans monument. Anyone who ever met Clarence Seavers will never forgot his kindness, generosity, and contagious enthusiasm.
