The article tells us that Mr. Fleming was born in Groton Township, Erie County, Ohio, in 1838, to pioneer residents, John and Nancy Paxton Fleming. Nancy Paxton Fleming lived to the age of 103 years. George W. Fleming served as a Sergeant in Co. G of the 101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry.He enlisted on August 12, 1862, under Colonel Stem, and was discharged in 1863 due to disability. George W. Fleming married Mereb Kershner in 1875. They had a large family, with five children living at the time of the writing of the Erie County History in 1889. On February 29, 1904, Mr. George W. Fleming died at the age of 67. He was buried in Deyo Cemetery.
