Lake Erie's Yesterdays

A part of the OhioLink Digital Media Center, the home page of Lake Erie's Yesterdays provides this description of its collection:

Lake Erie's Yesterdays is a collection of historic photographs of northwestern Ohio, documenting the local history of the Erie Islands and Lake Erie's western basin. These black and white images were produced by Sandusky, Ohio, commercial photographer Ernst Niebergall between 1909 and 1915.

Having grown up on North Central Ohio, Lake Erie is dear to my heart. Lake Erie's Yesterdays is searchable by keyword. You can also browse the collection by Place, Subject, or Creator.

Here are some of my favorite keyword searches:

Bay Bridge Train

wave

and

Cedar Point

If you have any ancestors who ever lived in or visited northwest Ohio, take some time to browse through these fabulous vintage photographs!

Note: The image of the Marblehead Lighthouse is not from Lake Erie's Yesterdays. The digital photo was taken in August of 2010, and the color was altered via Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery.

I am so pleased that you have higlighted Lake Erie's Yesterdays! Thank you. The photographs now online through OhioLINK are not only those by the late Sandusky photographer, Ernst Niebergall, but also from the collections of Capt. Frank Hamilton; long time photographer for the "Cleveland Plain Dealer" Louis Baus; and others. All are part of the CHARLES E. FROHMAN COLLECTION at the Hayes Presidential Center - a magnificent collection of documentary materials on Lake Erie, the Erie Islands, and the communities that make up Lake Erie's Western Basin. Many thanks!!!

Nan, Thanks so much for stopping by! I am glad to know that there are other photographers besides Mr. Niebergall. I think of "Lake Erie's Yesterdays" as a trusted, familiar friend:)
